According to Casper with Edwards, there are five time periods in Two for the Road. I would love to categorize these periods to three phases for every ordinary couple: in love wondering whether to be married or not, in marriage wondering whether to have a child or not, being parents wondering whether to divorce or not. Instead of displaying the changes of relationship in a chronological order, the film uses a lot of cross-cutting in terms of same space but a different time. Flashing back and forth to what happened before and after in the same journey for ten years, audience gain a more thorough sensation that it is the memory, along with other factors, in a relationship that keeps people together.

The director, Stanley Donen, puts the scenes together depending on the content and themes of the shots of the different period. Many of the interesting cuts won’t connect due to the spatial and temporal discontinuity, as Professor Casper lectured. In order to let the audience be aware of the change of time, characters have different clothes, hairstyle and cart types. For instance, when Joanna asked Mark “What kind of people would sit like that without a word to say to each other?”, Mark replied married people, then the next scene is that married Mark and Joanna not talking to each other while dining. Another example is when they don’t have a car, they imagined if they own a car in future they will definitely offer people on the road a drive, then the next scene is that they drive fastly across the same bridge, ignoring a couple on the road. All these cuttings add the humor of the movie.

如果現(xiàn)實(shí)里,背包旅途中,男主提議各走各的,女主搭上豪車走了,還會(huì)下來等他嗎?男主吵架激動(dòng)之下說句結(jié)婚,仙女樣的女主就投懷送抱了?女主回來求復(fù)合,男主冷言冷語,掉下泳池就和好了?最后男主還想外遇,發(fā)現(xiàn)搞了烏龍,女主主動(dòng)和好,就快樂大結(jié)局了?女主說的那句,我喜歡快樂的結(jié)局,似乎突破了第四面墻,告訴觀眾,這只是一個(gè)美好的愿望罷了。

女主是個(gè)不現(xiàn)實(shí)的人,所以可以不求回報(bào)的嫁給男主;但也因?yàn)槭遣滑F(xiàn)實(shí)的人,所以沒有辦法為五斗米折腰,去巴結(jié)業(yè)主,做個(gè)賢內(nèi)助。

也許,他們分別和其他人結(jié)婚會(huì)更好,女主這樣的仙女就該富貴閑人寵著;男主這種上進(jìn)建筑師,娶個(gè)富家小姐或相夫教子的賢妻良母都不錯(cuò)。但是,愛情是不講理的……

什么樣的人坐在一起卻不說話?已婚的人。希望的太多,失望就更多,想離婚,現(xiàn)實(shí)的瓜葛卻剪不斷理還亂,孩子怎么辦?房子怎么辦?……于是相對(duì)卻無言。

感慨頗多,這種公路片的拍攝手法和立意都很好,而一對(duì)男女從相遇熱戀到婚姻危機(jī)的人生軌跡也反映出了大部分人的人生。當(dāng)我們年輕的時(shí)候,錢包空空也滿懷激情地出門窮游,而等有一天我們變成了富裕的中年人,希望還能像今天這樣對(duì)生活充滿熱愛和深愛對(duì)方。

4 outta 4. Great Movie. 人物魅力、電影技術(shù)、劇本寫作、攝影打光、配樂協(xié)調(diào)全都滿分。我不知道是否應(yīng)該把這部電影歸類到chick flick里,因?yàn)樗鼘?shí)際上更像一部雅克德米和Agnes合作風(fēng)格下的那類型新浪潮氣質(zhì)描述婚姻和生活本質(zhì)的電影。辛虧導(dǎo)演選擇了倒敘和亂序的手法拍這部電影,如果按照正序來拍的話該多么無聊啊。我無法用一句話來總結(jié)我對(duì)這部電影的感受,我只能說愛情可能就是這么簡單又復(fù)雜,但我感謝導(dǎo)演把我心目中愛情最應(yīng)該的模樣展現(xiàn)出來。

真正的公路電影,每一段戲都發(fā)生在路上。從相戀、與前女友一家出行、婚后出游到各自出軌再到復(fù)合,公路上寫滿了一對(duì)中產(chǎn)階級(jí)夫婦的激情、倦怠和傷痕。剪輯出彩,每次轉(zhuǎn)場(chǎng)都頗費(fèi)心思,也是最值得看的錯(cuò)覺創(chuàng)意段落。赫本的各種摹仿秀精靈古怪,可惜38歲已顯老態(tài)。

為了幾段回憶揉在一起的形式,為了赫本的好看,給三星吧。戀愛故事中有感人的地方,可總體感覺不疼不癢ni chaud ni froid…美國的愛情電影真心跟法國意大利的不一樣,挺不習(xí)慣的。看到赫本鬧脾氣從海邊起跑跑出百米開外時(shí)聽到男主情急之下高喊你別跑啊你回來我就娶你她瞬間就轉(zhuǎn)頭回到男主身邊兩人就此結(jié)婚了的那段還是被culture shock到了:這已經(jīng)是60年代末了啊,美國電影為啥還在講這種童話故事…可能他們的出發(fā)點(diǎn)到底是相信婚姻的,然后經(jīng)歷了很多事,才漸漸開始總結(jié)開始感嘆開始超越這個(gè)制度,但在我們這的電影里這個(gè)出發(fā)點(diǎn)很早就不復(fù)存在了。導(dǎo)演故意給赫本安排了幾件顏色特別亮搭配特別丑的衣服,一出場(chǎng)就把觀眾逗笑了;他們和另外一家三口游Chantilly的那段真的就是法意常見的傻X美國游客典型…??

恐婚片,像《夜》,一樣是愛情死亡后徒留婚姻的困境,但與那不同的是這部里還有大量的甜蜜溫馨的片段,還有那些爭(zhēng)吵、摩擦、婚外情……看完倒沒稱贊它的敘事或者剪輯手法,因?yàn)槠涡缘牟鍞⒌臄⑹率址ㄔ谶@里顯得平實(shí),像一個(gè)老派導(dǎo)演所做的新潮嘗試,而是最后那段,將愛情里的節(jié)點(diǎn)通過自駕行一段段路程拼湊起來,概括了這一段感情如何由生到死,盡皆在此,不由想到《千年女優(yōu)》,不由想到《愛樂之城》。ps,AH在這里面顯老了,時(shí)髦還是很時(shí)髦的。

沒想到這居然是一部公路片。本片最大的特色是嫻熟地運(yùn)用了交叉剪輯,把男女主人公從巧遇到相戀到十年后的婚姻危機(jī)整個(gè)歷程勾勒得清清楚楚??赐耆銜?huì)發(fā)現(xiàn),他倆真是太適合了,簡直就是天造地設(shè)的一對(duì)啊。中年的赫本演技真好。本片的第二特色是運(yùn)用女性視角敘述故事,所以觀眾看到的結(jié)果就是,這場(chǎng)愛情出現(xiàn)危機(jī),完全是男人的問題。他自私、幼稚、忙于工作不顧妻兒,并且確實(shí)如那個(gè)刻板的教授所言有極強(qiáng)的控制欲。結(jié)局的和好,稍微有點(diǎn)莫名其妙。臺(tái)詞特別優(yōu)秀,很多對(duì)話宛如詩歌,優(yōu)美文雅,針鋒相對(duì),既推動(dòng)情節(jié)又刻畫人物,真是厲害。7分。

新浪潮版多南啊,不斷跳切剪輯一對(duì)夫妻不同時(shí)空的狀態(tài),信息量非常大。那兩個(gè)為任何愚蠢的理由瘋狂大笑的年輕男女去哪兒了?他們?cè)?jīng)無時(shí)無刻不感覺到餓,感覺到欲望,就像車上的小女孩一樣任性,直到他們自己成了父親和母親,突然間,隨性而至不再是件快樂的事,太多責(zé)任,太多隔閡,太少荷爾蒙,不再在大路上搭便車,不再睡便宜的小旅館,也沒了胃口,沒了做愛和愛人的欲望。題材是老的,但是總有新的故事和橋段,比如曬傷后全身疼痛也要擁抱的一幕就很美。
